Disney : When the announcement came that “Pirates Of The Caribbean 6” would proceed without Johnny Depp, it stirred up quite a commotion. Depp had become synonymous with his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, a pivotal figure in the franchise. Despite the excitement surrounding Margot Robbie’s casting as the lead in the spin-off, Disney has decided to pause the project, much to the dismay of fans.
It’s widely known that Depp was never approached to reprise his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Various speculations arose regarding the reasons, including allegations involving Amber Heard and reports of unprofessional behavior on set. A new spin-off featuring a female protagonist was introduced, with Robbie securing the lead role.
While fans were initially thrilled about Robbie’s involvement, they were disheartened by the absence of Depp in the spin-off. However, Robbie herself has acknowledged that Disney seems to have lost interest in the project, resulting in its indefinite postponement.
Margot Robbie mentioned to Vanity Fair, “We had an idea we were developing a while back, aiming for a more female-oriented storyline—not entirely female-led, but a fresh narrative approach we found exciting. However, it seems they’re not interested in pursuing it.”
Moreover, there have been speculations that after Johnny Depp’s legal victory against Amber Heard, Disney issued an apology to him. Reports suggest they even extended a $300 million offer to have him return to the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
Could Margot Robbie‘s remarks hint at the possibility of Johnny Depp’s comeback as Captain Jack Sparrow? We remain hopeful.
