Even though Disney removed Johnny Depp from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise due to issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard, there’s still a connection between him and the films. Johnny Depp played the legendary pirate Jack Sparrow in the series.
There’s a new Jack Sparrow film in the works without Depp, but what ties him to the franchise is the fact that he owns the island where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. The movies were shot on location, and Johnny Depp, along with other Disney actors, spent a significant amount of time in the Caribbean. Depp fell in love with the island during filming and bought it in 2004.

He purchased the island, which he named ‘Little Hall’s Pond Cay,’ for $3.6 million. Initially bare, it now features a ranch-style house with panoramic views. Depp also spent an additional $8 million on a private yacht to travel to and from the island at his convenience.
Express reported Depp saying, “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom.” He emphasized the significance of the island purchase for him, stating that “escapism is survival to him.”
The island has six white-sand beaches named after Johnny Depp’s family members, including his children Lily-Rose and Jack, as well as his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis. There’s even a beach named after his late friend and author Hunter S Thompson.
