Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya, long-time close friends, became even closer while working together on Euphoria. Sweeney had reservations about the nudity required for her character, Cassie Howard, but she eventually took the chance and received praise for her performance. Despite the show’s success, there’s a significant pay gap between Sweeney and Zendaya, with Zendaya earning almost twice as much. This difference might be fair since Zendaya is not only the main character but also the executive producer, deserving recognition for her hard work.

At first, Sydney Sweeney was unsure about doing nude scenes for her part in Euphoria. However, she overcame her concerns by putting herself in the shoes of a 17-year-old facing similar situations. She believed the show portrays a certain reality, and to do it justice, she needed to understand and empathize with those going through such experiences. On the other hand, Zendaya, who plays the main character Rue Bennett and is also an executive producer, credits the writer Sam Levinson for expressing emotions that are hard to convey, including issues like depression and mental health.

In February 2023, a report showed a big difference in pay between Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya. Zendaya, who is the main actor and executive producer, is set to earn about $1 million per episode, while Sweeney’s earnings are a bit over one-third of that amount. Sweeney got around $325,000 for working on all 13 episodes across two seasons of Euphoria. For the upcoming season, with Zendaya as an executive producer, she is expected to earn at least twice as much as Sweeney. It’s not clear if this pay gap will continue in future seasons, especially as filming for the third season, rumored to be set five years in the future, is about to start.
